1. (Re)define your career plan

After years spent in the same position, dismissal can be an opportunity to ask yourself about your career plan. Ask yourself if you want to find a new job with the same functions as your previous position or, on the contrary, if you want to give your career a new direction. Also think about the industrial sector you will favour in your job search and the type of company you are targeting.

2. Update your CV

You may not have needed your resume for a long time. It is therefore essential that you update it and adapt it to your new job search. You should not only update your last job but also add the new skills you have developed in the last years. Read your resume again to make sure it is still relevant to the jobs you are about to apply for. Don't forget to update your LinkedIn profile as well. To do so, find our tips for the job search on LinkedIn.

3. Work on your network

Inform your network of your new job search.  This can be done via LinkedIn, by email or by making a few phone calls. There is no reason to be ashamed of being dismissed and it happens to a lot of people for various reasons. By letting your contacts know that you are looking for a job and that you are ready to start as soon as possible, you will encourage them to think about the potential employers they know and help you in your job search.

4. Organize your time

The search for your next job can be long, stressful and a full-time activity. It is therefore good to plan your days to alternate between looking for job offers, writing cover letters, sending unsolicited applications, preparing for job interviews, etc... Drawing up a schedule will help you stay on track and concentrate, while allowing you a few breaks.

5. Talk to a recruiter

With a recruiter by your side, you can build your career with confidence. Recruiters are well informed about hiring opportunities. Many are specialized in their fields; thus they have a comprehensive view of the current state of the job market. They can also guide you into your next position because they know what companies are looking for and what skills are generally in demand by employers.

Once you have gone through all these steps and are ready to apply, check out the latest jobs available at Spring Professional Luxembourg.
